When Raindrops Last

When raindrops last were falling from the sky
And the winter started waking up
From her nine months and twenty days of sleep
The day without a sun kept passing by
Hazy with all the dark gray clouds
Hovering above and reigning supreme.
Last year when the winter had gone to sleep,
All the dry and fallen leaves
By then had paved the way for newer sprouts
To reach out for the sky from the dying seeds.
“This year the winter’s coming back
With a vengeance to pluck out from that growth
The weaklings that stood too pale or too lean
To let the privileged few grow
Big and taller than the rest in the realm.”
This I was told by the wind in a dream
When raindrops last were falling from the sky
Heavy with all the clouds reigning supreme.
