The Final Adieu

Yesterday it began to rain
well before the dusk had arrived
and raindrops kept pelting the ground
until an early night succumbed
to the rise of a mellow dawn.

It felt as if the very heart
of Nature was in pain and woe,
although I could not guess for what or why;

not until my emptiness too
had begun to intensify
as the wind whispered, it was time
to pledge the final adieu to my love.

The gust of wind that blew at noon today
was me exhaling just before doing so.
