To Kahlil Gibran

“Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears…”

Then I knew how to revel in times of mortal pain
and how to be sad when with joy my heart is overwhelmed.
It felt as if my life had grown meaningful, finally,
as the spell of Gibran’s words gave me back my sanity.

I bowed down in sheer gratitude from the heart of my hearts
to the maestro of twentieth century for his wise words;
his was a soul with divine insights, honed to perfection
and thanks my dear friend for showing me what his mind had borne.
