“Perhaps only people who are capable of real togetherness have that look of being alone in the universe. The others have a certain stickiness, they stick to the mass.”

D.H. Lawrence, Lady Chatterley’s Lover

My life began
inside my mother’s womb,
in solitude,
sustained by her
through an umbilical cord
until severed clean!

While growing up
I was groomed by nature,
in solitude
and the stars, far away
and clouds, close to home,
that brought teardrops from the sea!

The social norms,
those power dynamics,
to determine
who’s weak and who is strong
cannot hold me,
despite my solitude!

In solitude
I reign supreme
and so shall my death be!
A soloist through life, I have
exchanged the mayhem here
for eternity!

  1. It has taken a while for me to find my way back here and actually comment again. But to be able to do so now, for this creation, I’d say I have good timing.

Solitude; that one state of being that every creature on God’s green earth shares with each other. I like, perhaps best, the quote you have begun with by Lawrence. “Real togetherness”, as Lawrence puts it, is truly hard to find, and indeed not many can boast of it. For many of us, solitude is an enforced state, often filled with sorrows, real or imagined, loss, pity, self-loathing, or any number of negative emotions. But true solitude exists in absolute self-acceptance, which is what you’ve depicted so well in your poem.

Each stage of life, laid out with it’s own inherent moment of solitude. It makes us think about our own lives, re-examine those moments and wonder where our own solitude lies.

Best of all, however, my friend, I am glad to see how much strength can be felt in each line of your poem. May I just say that I proud of where your moments of solitude have led you, if they have led to this point, where you have exchanged ‘mayhem for eternity’. Bravo!!

    1. welcome back. I agree with all you have said. I believe I have successfully exchanged mayhem for eternity but I will not boast because every future moment can become a new test for that conviction. in the end I must give credit to inspirations from friends like you for being the lifeline of my sanity. but I miss your presence and such through observations on my blog.

      1. Oh yes, every moment is a new test indeed. Life is a circle after all. There can be no darkness without light and no light without darkness. The experience of pain brings new meaning to that of joy and vice versa as well. But, I do believe, do not boast, of course, but do not dismiss your satisfaction either. Where you are now is an achievement that you should be proud of. Experience it quietly. You friends are glad to stand by you for aid or encouragement, when you need it. And I am glad to be able to speak to you once again and provide what reassurance I may, through your blog. Hopefully, I shall be able to continue the trend.

  2. Reblogged this on DIVERGENTCANDOUR and commented:
Though I have not represented Amit for a long while, I must say this creation, once again, resonates with me, as so many of his other works have done. I am pleased to share it here, again. Solitude, from the pen of a poet who walks that path of life, and yet shares those ruminations with the world. Bravo!

And I’m pretty sure this lovely art of yours has stemmed from solitude, a bliss few get to experience. Keep it up! 🙂

    1. but to know that solitude is blissful you ought to be one of those few who have experienced it…. yes, it did stem from solitude, the divinest of all possible human states and thank you for your kind encouragement. I invite you to check more of my poems, if you are a poetry lover!
