Paper Rhyme (In A Darkened Room)

Paper Rhyme (In A Darkened Room)

(Translation of the Song)

Shredding scribbled pages in a darkened room,
I spend my hours with you gone forever,
not from memories but from my humble life,
like petals that remained inside a book…

I held you deep inside my throbbing heart
but you left for the land of no return,
still I keep waiting for you ever since…

In the shade of darkness,
memories playing games,
just solitude alone
remaining around me…
Open your eyes for once
to see me sowing dreams
of your resurrection, one day!

A few songs and albums both grey with dust
are all I have left with me to confide,
it seems I need you for my existence…

In the shade of darkness,
memories playing games,
just solitude alone
remaining around me…
Open your eyes for once
to see me sowing dreams
of your resurrection, one day!

A War Victim’s Tale

A War Victim’s Tale

[Translation of a monologue in a Bangla drama, titled, “Janani” (Mother)]

I know, you must be wondering
what kind of a mother I am
but did I truly become a mother!

Those devils could only inject
a poison in my blood;
A poison, in the golden lands of Bangladesh!

A poison that would have contaminated
my Motherland!

That’s my reason for doing what I have done –
kill the poisoned seed, growing inside me!
The sacred Motherhood that I have within
will only breed and grow for Beauty, Truth and Love!

So I lay my pledge on your righteous minds,
don’t label it as an infanticide,
for that was my battle in the War…
However, it is for you to decide!

“ধন্য, ধান্যে, পুষ্পে ভরা আমাদের এই বসুন্ধরা
তাহার মাঝে আছে দেশ এক, সকল দেশের সেরা…
…এমন দেশটি কোথাও খুজে পাবে নাকো তুমি
সকল দেশের রানী সে যে আমার জন্মভূমি…”

[… TRANSLATION …]

The world is surely full of wealth, food and flowers
But one country among all stands out as the best
You cannot find a land as charming and magnificent as hers
She is the queen of all the countries, the land of my birth…

Translation (My Dear Artemis)

Madly, I have fallen in love with Artemis,
goddess of the hunt, moon and wilderness,
like Zeus falling for pretty Europa,
though I have pledged my human love to her,
as myself instead of as birds or beasts
I love you with all my heart, my dear Artemis!

Thinking if I have lived long enough, already,
I was burning like a candle burns before
the blue and yellow flame is extinguished
but then I found Artemis, smiling at my door.

In a flash my emptiness, dejection and pain,
all of them were whisked away by your starlit smile,
as I tasted the innocence, in your violent kiss,
of the silver moon and blood, my dear Artemis!

Do You Still Love Me With Your Life?

Translation of a Bangla Song, Tumi Ki Amay Ager Moto Basho Bhalo by Agun

Does the moon in her glories full
still long for that delight
in your innocent eyes?
Do you still gaze up at the stars
while the silent hours blurred?
Do you still love me with your life?

When the sky is teeming with heavy clouds
do your windows still remain opened wide?
Does the rain still like your first love
to kiss you descend from the sky?

On the sea of your hair
do the clouds in shimmering layers
still paint the softness of the night?
Do you still love me with your life?

Can those worn letters still leave you in tears
for a silent tale of woe never told?
Does a mellow sun still at afternoons
to you in whispers let his heart unfold?

When the mild evening descends
and a purple darkness envelops the world,
do you still hold a candlelight?
Do you still love me with your life?
