Night, o night, where are you?
Come, relieve me of life,
I have gazed for too long
at the sun, now its cruel brightness
haunts me day and night, I cannot
tell the difference between them,
even with my eyes closed
all I see is the sun
and what a curse it is!
As if my eyelashes are gone
and I’m forced to look at the light,
bare eyelids giving no relief!
Outside the world goes on,
in slumbers as always,
despite the heartless noise of greed
and meaningless tottering of
the vauntingly manacled humanoid minds,
dreaming of future on previous years’ lies!
Yes, when we take, we take as if it is
the very last day of our life on earth
but woe, when the moment is nigh to give
we assume that we shall live forever!
When we cry we become like charities,
bestowing sorrows as we come and go
but joy we must drink alone and to lees,
how dreadful it is that we should be so!
Is it in the nature of humankind
to shroud, with a thousand lies, the simple truth,
changing faces as each day turns to night
or feign submission with a cunning ruth?
And thus we, the human beings,
shall prosper forevermore
while Krishna, Jesus and Mohammed
will beg in vain from door to door!*
*The final couplet is broken down into four lines for a better alignment.
I have an orb of crystal in my head,
an orb that showed me the future some time!
Though often no matter how hard I tried
I could see nothing as no light was shed!
There were days it showed me nothing at all,
despite my bereaved insistence but then
some days it would pull me down, unwilling
into an abyss frightening my soul!
So it did last night and at first I thought,
it was a nightmare from my nightly lot
but it was the orb striving hard to tell
the addresses to your heaven and hell!
In the end it turned out that it was I
who held the key to them in truth and lies!
No thanks, we have had enough of your lies,
enough of your petty charms already;
now loose that mask of conjured illusions,
we don’t need your bravado anymore!
Or, perhaps we don’t deserve better men
and women too than their lot, for they are
from the same stock, same blood and land as us,
vilified the way power is known to do!
My heart dreamed of being a hero when I was young
but soon history showed me the fate of heroes
and philosophy asked me, what good it would bring,
if absolute power corrupts absolutely!
So I resigned all my dreams and learned to be a model
citizen who eats, breeds then casts his vote for them as well!
