The Color of Your Soul

The Color of Your Soul

Of all the earthly color, my favorite one is blue!
And in thy glory, even azure oceans fade in hue!
In green you resemble the Nature as if you two are one
and you are everywhere down to humble mosses and ferns!

But woe! Enough said already? Perhaps. How could I tell?
Silence chills and soothes and I shiver all the same,
trembling in deep shock and awe from inside, but in the end
seems I love you even more
than I have loved you ever before,
because of nothing but the color of your soul!

In red you remind me of Menaka,
the Nymph famous for her beauty, and in pure white,
of Parvati, the daughter of the Mountain King!
So, sometime I remain calm, contemplating
like Vishvamitra, the great-saint
and some time I become Shiva-like, tumultuous –
destroying and preserving both, like a raging flood,
or churn the seas to drink the poison, floating in their blood,
depending on the color of your soul,
and in the end I love you even more
than I could have loved you ever before,
because of nothing but the color of your soul!

Vishwamitra & Menaka :

Menaka was one of the most beautiful celestial nymphs. When king Vishwamitra started his first meditation, Menaka was sent by the gods to lure him out of it. She was successful, by the grace of her divine beauty. They fell in true love with each other which resulted in the birth of a daughter. Their grandchild was called Bharata. The name of India in Sanskrit and other languages descending from Sanskrit is Bharata. However, when Vishwamitra came to know about Menaka’s initial intent (of luring him out of his meditation), he cursed her to be separated from him forever.

Parvati :

She is one of the three daughters (Ganga or the river Ganges was another) of Himavan, the mountain king. Along with Lakshmi and Saraswati, Parvati forms the trinity of goddesses or Tridevi. She is the wife of Shiva. It is said that Parvati embodies the amalgamation of divine knowledge and mother earth.

Shiva :

Along with Brahma and Vishnu, Shiva forms the trinity of gods, Trimurti. He is the god of destruction. Shiva is famous for saving the seas of the world from poison administered by the anti-gods, during their epic battle with the gods. With Parvati, he forms the androgynous god, Ardhanarishwara.

A Dove’s Coo

A Dove’s Coo

A grey dove sat atop an olive tree,
its wings dull and brown from the toiling flight;
five thousand miles of ocean waves and seas!
A few missing feathers on each, it hoped
would grow again to fill the gaping holes;
thankfully it was just the raging wind!

“Where is she? Where is she?”, panting it cooed,
in a voice both sharp and melancholic,
intrusive yet hauntingly beautiful.
‘I have come from far away, where the sun
used to shine less cruelly in days bygone
and the rivers too were panoramic.’

‘Now it is as barren as I am without her’,
the grey dove thought, ‘but my coos are not spreading far!’

The Sixth One

The Sixth One
Watch and Listen to a reading of the poem by me.

So you think you can kill a Shark
or a Manta Ray and Nature
will sit back, amused and indifferent?
Well wake up from your dream and think again!

The sixth one is coming,
when the snowballing starts
it won’t be as mild as the previous one,
that came sixty five million years ago
and drove the dinosaurs extinct
but as massive as the Permian’s!

Half the air you breathe is coming
from trees and the rest from oceans
but you are felling trees
and strangling oceans too
for space and sustenance, not greed
you might say like a proper fool!

Will you, in the entombed silence,
be able to turn your face the other way,
when your grandchildren accuse you
for destroying their divine inheritance,
for being the asteroid to bring
an end to the Anthropocene?

The Denominations of Love

The Denominations of Love

If Love is a flame then the one in love
is like the silent candle that burns below!
If Love is the rain then the one in love
is like a sea of desert sand, stretching
as far as your eyes can see, devouring
the wetness as soon as the raindrops touch the ground!

When my love is a giant ball of fire called the sun,
I am a planet, colored blue, known as the earth…
But when my love is the earth itself, I become
the silver moon, charming the oceans of her love!

Honestly, Love has always been the only way
I can annihilate myself for nirvana,
so now as the sun has set on my waiting days,
let my soul pledge my existence in loving her!
