Give And Take

Yes, when we take, we take as if it is
the very last day of our life on earth
but woe, when the moment is nigh to give
we assume that we shall live forever! 
   

When we cry we become like charities,
bestowing sorrows as we come and go
but joy we must drink alone and to lees,
how dreadful it is that we should be so!
    

Is it in the nature of humankind
to shroud, with a thousand lies, the simple truth,
changing faces as each day turns to night
or feign submission with a cunning ruth?
   

And thus we, the human beings,
shall prosper forevermore
while Krishna, Jesus and Mohammed
will beg in vain from door to door!*
